method

Aim
To determine which mixture of chemicals in nail polish lasts the longest

Equipment
  • different colour nail polish
  • plastic strips
  • plastic containers
  • vinegar
  • nail polish remover
  • cotton bud sticks
Method
  1. list the materials of each nail polish down
  2. paint a square (2cm by 2cm) using each colour on a plastic strip. To refine the square to make it as accurate as possible, use the cotton bud sticks and the nail polish remover to completely remove smudges.
  3. pour 300ml of vinegar into a plastic container, thus giving the nail polish time to dry
  4. submerge the plastic strip with the nail polish squares in the vinegar (making sure that the nail polish has dried)
  5. leave the container in a stabe environment, making sure to check up on it on regular time periods
  6. repeat the experiment. Repetition of the experment can be held at the same time to reduce variables
  7. after 4 weeks, take the plastic strip out and measure each square. this can be done by laying the strip on grid paper
  8. record and analyse
